Yarn

Sometimes you just need that vacation…

So much has happened over the past few weeks! The summer classes are done. I finished them up about 2 weeks ago and strategically planned my trip to New York City the following weekend. I haven’t been in the writing mood much because I spent A LOT of time writing for my classes. I have a ton to share with you, but I figured I’d start from the most recent and work my way back. My trip to NYC was wonderful, lots of tiresome walking but it was still relaxing in its own way. My best friend lives there so we spent some time catching up and resting on her couch. Since it was a relatively quick trip (only 3 days) I didn’t do too many big things besides going to Ellis Island and the Central Park Zoo. Here’s a few photos I captured:

The United Nations flags. My friend lives mere blocks from here.

Ellis Island. My great great-grandfather came through here from Italy.

Polar bear at the zoo. I was amazed!

Tiny sheep at the Children’s Petting Zoo.

I did, however, make it to one yarn shop. One that I hadn’t gone to before so I made sure to get there before they closed. Usually I’m really bad about yarn shopping in New York. The last two trips I came back with a suitcase and a duffel bag full of yarn. I was intent on not letting that happen again. I went to Annie and Co. which is split into two shops: knitting and needlepoint. Having only one place planned helped tremendously, and because they had needlepoint stuff I was able to get my sister some thread (she sews, check out her blog). I picked these out for her:

And for myself, I picked up only these two skeins. Yep, just the two. :)

The one in front is Malabrigo Sock in Persia. The yellow one in the back is Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage in Olivia. These both were too pretty not to take home. No plans for the Malabrigo yet, but the Tosh Vintage is going to be part of a blanket. I’m just waiting on the other three skeins I ordered online before I can start.

All in all, despite the overly swollen feet and tired muscles I had a great time and I was sorely in need of getting away from the house. That’s one downside of taking classes online, you’re home a lot (that is, if that’s where you study). I have several more weeks before the fall semester starts so I plan on writing more blog posts. I still have another online yarn shop review to do. I’m particularly excited about it because I can unveil my latest achievement! I also have a couple of pattens to write up and share and I still need to show you that new hutch. Too much fun going on. Ok, until next time, happy knitting!!

  1. The yarn you chose is beautiful. I can’t wait for the finish product. It sounds like you had a lot of fun in NYC. I hope one day to go and visit Ellis Island. Thank you for your post’s. I’m always looking to see what you write next.
