The Academic

I finally put the finishing touches on my new pattern this morning and it is now officially available! The Academic is a colorwork cowl that is quick to knit and super warm due to the double layer of yarn. Size options include Short (the blue and light grey sample) and Tall (the brown and red sample).

I wanted to make a pattern that could use a small amount of two colors of yarn. I’m sure any knitter with a yarn stash has at least two single skeins of worsted weight yarn in two colors that they’re not sure what to do with. I always end up with this problem. When yarn shopping I usually find two colors of a yarn that I like but really don’t feel like buying more than one skein of each. I hope those who also have this problem find this cowl as a good way to do some stash-busting. :)

The yarn requirements for this cowl are:

Short version
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes (100% wool, worsted weight, 50 grams, 110 yards per skein)
Main Color (MC) – Dove Heather (approx. 105 yards used)
Coordinating Color (CC) – Sapphire Heather (approx. 75 yards used)

Tall version
Cascade 220 Worsted (100% wool, worsted weight, 100 grams, 220 yards per skein)
MC – Color #9465, Dark Brown Heather (approx. 130 yards used)
CC – Color #9489, Brick Red Heather (approx. 110 yards used)

I love how the diamonds look like a simpler version of argyle. I actually had a different name for this pattern but after finishing the Tall version I felt “The Academic” described the spirit of this cowl much more succinctly. I suppose it’s an ode to my love for continuing education. Whatever the reason I’m very excited to share this pattern with the world.

The pattern is $2.25 USD and can be found on my Designs page and on Ravelry here. Please let me know if you have any questions about this pattern, I’m always happy to help any way I can. Happy knitting!
